A patient in Tho Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province has tested positive for virbio cholerae, said Ha Dinh Ngu, director of the provincial Preventive Medical Centre on July 5.
This was the first case detected in Thanh Hoa this year, said Ngu. Currently, the patient is in stable condition and he is in isolation at the Tho Xuan hospital.
The patient was said to have taken a meal at a street food stall, and eaten a sweet potato and drank black-bean sauce and ice water at home. He had a stomach ache and acute diarrhea in the evening. No one from his family and the neighbour hood has experienced similar systems.
After receiving the news, the provincial Preventive Medical Centre sent an inspection team to his family and directed the locality to prevent a possible outbreak. It has worked with the local medical unit to sterilise the surrounding areas, and co-operated with other relevant agencies to provide information about the disease and preventive measures, as well as to help local people to better carry out environmental, water and food sanitation.
