In Uncategorized on October 16, 2010 at 6:25 pmVietnam has welcomed nearly four million of foreign arrivals in the first nine months of this year, a huge increase compared to previous years and up 34.2 percent against last year figure, according to statistics from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
Of the tourists, around 37,500 traveled by sea, up 22 percent against the same period last year.
On October 15, Viet Excursion Company welcomed a five-star cruise liner named Diamond Princess at Phu My port in HCM City. The cruise ship carried 2,585 visitors and 1,063 crew members from 47 nations and territories around the world.
Meanwhile, HCM city’s tourism sector is organizing more entertainment and art programmes for tourists in the hope of receiving its 3 millionth visitor late this year.

Grand masters to battle in France
In Uncategorized on October 16, 2010 at 6:25 pmTwo International Grand Masters (IGM) Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son will compete in the Cap D’Agde Rapid Chess tournament in France from October 23-31.
The two top Vietnamese grand masters will test their skills against formidable opponents, including Russian giant Anatoly Karpov, Vasily Ivanchuk from Ukraine, Bu Xiangzhi from China and Judith Polgar from Hungary.
The event will be useful warm up before Liem and Son join the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China next month.
Liem, 19, has been in top form since finishing second at the Sparkassen Chess Meeting that was held in Dortmund, Germany in July. He also won the Moscow Open in February.
Last year, the HCM City-born player broke into the world’s top 20 FIDE rankings, and was the only Vietnamese player to make the list of leading male chess masters.
However, Son and Liem performed poorly at the Chess Olympiad last month.
Son, who became a Grand Master in March 1997 when he was 14 years old, will face China’s Bu Xiangzhi, an arch rival, in the Cap D’Agde tourney.
The match will be held next Friday. After the tournament, the two top players will have a 10-day break before flying to Guangzhou for the Asian Games.

Businesses flock to Hanoi industrial fair
In Uncategorized on October 16, 2010 at 6:25 pmMore than 350 businesses, including 100 foreign companies from the Czech Republic, the Republic of Korea, mainland China, Taiwan (China) , Japan, Singapore and India will participate in the Vietnam International Industrial Fair 2010 (VIIF 2010) in Hanoi from October 19-23.
At the fair, businesses will introduce their industrial machines and equipment, including compressors, electric engines, power generators, analysing and measuring equipment and welding robots.
Speaking at a press conference on October 15, Nguyen Danh Thuan, Deputy General Director of the Giang Vo Exhibition Centre, affirmed that the annual VIIF offers a chance for domestic and foreign businesses to meet and seek partners as well as providing investment and technology transfer opportunities, helping speed up the international integration process.
During the fair, a seminar on automation, measurement and control will be held with the participation of nearly 80 businesses operating in this field.

Ha Tinh evacuates flooded areas
In Uncategorized on October 16, 2010 at 6:25 pmOn October 14-15 provinces from Nghe An to Quang Ngai experienced heavy rains, averaging 100-200mm.
Rivers from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai province are at very high levels. Lowland and delta areas in these provinces are in danger of flash floods and landslides.
Ha Tinh province on October 15 evacuated 1,000 families in Huong Son district to safe areas.
The provincial People’s Committee has directed local authorities and border guard soldiers to evacuate people from hazardous areas.
Two days ago, the province asked all districts and towns to implement emergency measures to minimise property and human losses.

Vietnam intensifies search for missing boat
In Uncategorized on October 16, 2010 at 6:24 pmDeputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem on October 15 chaired a meeting with relevant ministries and branches on furthering search and rescue efforts for fishing boat QNg 66478 TS and its nine-member crew.
The boat and nine fishermen onboard were captured by China on September 11, 2010, and released, as the Chinese side reported, on October 11. However, have been no communications with the boat and its crew since then.
“The Party and State are very keenly watching this incident” and, “in the meantime, the most important duty is to concentrate on searching and rescuing the fishermen,” Khiem said.
He instructed ministries, responsible branches and localities to mobilise all forces, including the navy, the border guard, maritime police, search and rescue forces and civil boats, in the search for the missing boat and its crew.
The Deputy PM also asked the Foreign Ministry to continue requests for China to cooperate in the search and create favourable conditions for the Vietnamese side’s search and rescue operation.
He required the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the People’s Committee of the central province of Quang Ngai to provide assistance to the families of the fishermen.
Coupled with the measures undertaken by the Foreign Ministry on recent days, Vietnamese authorised agencies and localities have actively searched for the vessel.
On October 14, the Vietnam National Committee for Search and Rescue requested Border Guard Command inform its forces stationed at coastal cities and provinces as well as Vietnamese fishermen currently operating in the East Sea to cooperate in the search.
On October 15, the Vietnam National Committee for Search and Rescue issued a maritime search and rescue announcement for Boat QNg 66478 TS.
By 18:00 hrs of October 15, Boat QNg 66478 TS was yet to arrive in Ly Son and Vietnamese authorised agencies, localities and families of the fishermen were yet to communicate with the boat and its crew.
On the afternoon of October 15, a representative of the Vietnamese embassy in China met with a representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry to discuss the issue.
At the meeting, the Chinese side said the Chinese agencies have on the afternoon of Oct. 14 launched a patrol ship search on the route that the Quang Ngai boat was expected to use to return home.
From the beginning of the afternoon of Oct. 15, the Chinese side also launched a helicopter search for the boat and it will inform the Vietnamese side immediately if there is a result.

40th UPU letter writing contest gets underway
In Uncategorized on October 16, 2010 at 6:24 pmA ceremony was held in the central city of Da Nang on October 15 to mark the 136th World Post Day and to launch the 2011 Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter Writing Contest.
The annual contest for children up to 15 years old, hosted by the UPU, aims to develop children’s creative writing skills and help to strengthen friendship amongst nations, whilst giving young people an understanding of the postal sectors role in social development.
The 40th contest has the theme, “Imagine you are a tree in a forest, then write a letter explaining why it is important to protect forests” in response to the 2011 International Year of Forest.
The contest has been held in Vietnam 21 times since 1987, with eight school children winning international prizes, including a first prize awarded to Ho Thi Hieu Hien from the Tay Son Secondary School in Da Nang’s Hai Chau district at the 39th competition in 2010 and a second prize pocketed by Nguyen Dac Xuan Thao, from the Nguyen Hue Secondary School also in Hai Chau district at the 38th competition in 2009.
It is jointly organised by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC), the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) and the Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT), the pioneer newspaper and other ministries and branches.
At the ceremony, Ho Thi Hieu Hien, who won first prize winner at the 39th contest received a certificate of merit and awards from the UPU, MoET, the Health Ministry and the HCMCYU.

State President meets voters in HCM City
In Uncategorized on October 16, 2010 at 6:24 pmState President Nguyen Minh Triet met with voters in HCM City on October 16 to inform them of the agenda of the 8th session of the 12th National Assembly.
At the meeting, voters discussed issues related to Laws on Consumer Rights Protection, Inspection, Securities, Civil Servants, the Election of NA deputies etc. Voters, particularly, expressed their keen interest in the role of NA deputies will play in supervising state activities and highlighted efforts to divide the Law on Denunciation and Complaints into two separate documents.
In addition, voters also discussed policies related to people who render service to the revolution and urgent issues of housing, traffic jams, and environmental pollution. They also expressed their wish that the NA would pay more attention to exploring for mineral resources, protecting forest and supporting fishermen at sea.
President Triet also praised voters for giving opinions on the draft laws and expressed hope that the City’s and District 3’s authorities will find solutions to these urgent matters.

Party Central Office marks 80th anniversary
In Uncategorized on October 16, 2010 at 6:23 pmThe Central Office of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which plays an important role in the Party’s leadership, has celebrated its 80th birthday in Hanoi.
A ceremony took place on October 16 in the presence of General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, former general secretaries Do Muoi and Le Kha Phieu, former Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Van An, former State President Tran Duc Luong, and Minister of Defence Phung Quang Thanh.
The history of the Central Office has been closely connected to that of the Communist Party of Vietnam, said Ngo Van Du, current Head of the Central Office. Its main functions still include advice and assistance to senior officials in the Politburo, the Secretariat and the Central Committee of the Party.
Mr Du said the agency now comprises a strong array of experts in various fields to help with appraising projects, reporting socio-economic issues, constructing laws, and advising the Politburo on policies and measures to curb the impact of the global economic downturn and shift the country’s economic model.
In addition, he said, the Central Office has improved the quality of its logistical and financial work for the activities of the Party’s central leadership organs, leaders, and specialized commissions.
In his speech, General Secretary Manh praised the Central Office and its local counterparts for their close coordination with related agencies to accurately, quickly and comprehensively reflect the country’s situation. It has also proposed timely measures to deal with pressing issues, which has ensured the Party’s leadership in politics, economy, society, defence, security and external affairs.
Mr Manh also pointed out that the Central Office has played an active supervisory role to make sure that the Party’s resolutions are fully and effectively implemented, thus creating impetus for the country’s industrialization, modernization and international integration.
At the ceremony, the Party Chief asked the Central Office to prepare thoroughly for the coming 11th National Party Congress.
He urged the agency to improve its professional work, ensuring each staff member of the Office fully grasps late President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings on the crucial importance of office work and follows his moral standards.
Mr Manh asked the Office to reform its working styles and apply scientific methods to raise the quality of its work and create a highly cultural environment.
