The contest is on a mission to help developers improve their imagination and talent upon the support of the Qualcomm latest-released component, Qualcomnn AR SDK.

Contestants can develop their products in different fields; including games, educational applications, media and marketing tools, and instructional manuals.

The AR Challenge requires that the Qualcomm AR SDK be used for the detection and tracking components of submitted app, but no other restrictions on other tools that the contestants can use are contemplated.

The AR Challenge is only for AR software applications and not AR hardware. To be considered for the Challenge, every application must run on at least one of the commercially available, off-the-shelf Android devices that the Qualcomm AR SDK supports. The device must not require any custom hardware or any hardware additions or modifications to a commercially available Android device.

For those who are interested in the contest and willing to be part of it, they need to complete their online application at the submission site: at first, and later visit another Qualcomm website: to download the useful component, before they get things started.

The site for submissions will close on Jan 7, 2011 and the judging will begin soon then. The list of winners will be announced publicly on Feb 14, 2011.

Top winner will pocket $125,000 while the runner-up and the second runner-up will respectively be awarded $50,000 and $25,000. The award ceremony will be hosted at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Feb 14, 2011.
