The competition attracted 145 candidates from 15 countries, such as China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and the host nation, Singapore.

The contest commemorating the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth was organized for the first time by the Chopin Society (Singapore) and the Nan yang Academy of Fine Arts. Contestants were required to perform Chopin’s works for a fixed period, depending on their age.
