The cold wave that hit north Vietnam on Wednesday night has affected nearly the entire region with many parts seeing the mercury fall to 6 degrees Celsius.

By Thursday morning the bitter cold covered most parts of the northern central region as well. Northeasterly winds lashed the gulf of Tonkin intensifying to a speed of 50-60 kilometers per hour and the sea turning extremely rough.
Weather forecasts predict the cold wave will spread to many parts of the central region later today and some areas may even experience medium to heavy showers.

The coastline off the northern and central regions is expected to be lashed by winds with speed levels from 75-102 kilometers an hour.

Meanwhile, the southern sea coast is also expected to experience high winds with velocity of 62-88 kilometers an hour. Thunderstorms are expected and boats have been warned to watch out for tornadoes.

The prevalent cold conditions in the mainland and fierce chilly winds on the sea are expected to last for several days.
