Cultural activities to celebrate the Christmas Seasons

Many of the city’s entertainment venues are busy these days, offering exciting activities and entertainment programs for locals and tourists centered on the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.

A play is performed by the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theater.

Dam Sen Cultural Park hopes to lure visitors with its musical performances, comedies and puppetries during this Christmas holiday. The highlight of this period will be a concert entitled “Gala Xmas 2010” featuring the famous pop star Dam Vinh Hung, bringing some Christmas joy to music lovers.


In addition, a special art performance themed “Colors of the winter” will be held at the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Culture Palace on December 25.

Additionally, The Idecaf Theater will present a children’s dance and music performance entitled “Fairy stories”. It is the drama of the adventures of the Monkey God in the classic Chinese novel “The journey to the West”. It is at the Ben Thanh Theater from December 17 to January 2.


Another play to be performed will be held at the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theater. It will be on the relationship between family members and the issues it can entail. These are some of the choices this Christmas season.

Photos celebrate Vietnam- Romania relations

A photo exhibition in celebration of 60 th anniversary of Vietnam – Romania diplomatic relations opened in Hanoi on Nov. 22.


The exhibition named “Vietnam- Romania, 60 years of diplomatic relations” was jointly held by the Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Romanian Embassy in Vietnam .


Some 100 photos depicting historical moments in bilateral relations, especially the meetings of two countries’ leaders were on show.


Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Romanian Ambassador to Vietnam Dumitru Olaru said the event would help boost actively bilateral ties despite fluctuations in the region and the world. He also expressed his hope that the photo exhibition would make deep impression on the public and international friends of the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.


The exhibition will last till Nov. 29.

French and Vietnamese fashion designers to celebrate Hanoi’s 1000th birthday

A special fashion show featuring French and Vietnamese designs will be held in Hanoi on November 3 to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.

The fashion show will take place at Hanoi Opera House on November 3.

Fashion lovers will have a chance to enjoy latest collections of France’s famous designers including Ambrym, Charabia, Christophe Josse and Dormeuil and Vietnamese leading designers Sy Hoang, Do Manh Cuong, Hoang Hai, Kelly Bui and Le Ha.

The event is directed by French choreographer Fanny de Chaillé and musician Christophe Chassol
In related news, the 9th annual Dep (beauty) Fashion Show will be held in The Garden Shopping Mall in Hanoi on October 31.

This year’s show themed “Dreaming” will focus on the social reality and aspiration to escape from reality.

The performance will feature collections such as “Migration” by German fashion designer Juliane Kunze, “The tale” and “Imaginative world” by local designers Luu Anh Tuan and Kelly Bui.

Bac Lieu Buddhists celebrate capital’s birthday

A Buddhist Festival was held in the Mekong delta province of Bac Lieu on July 28 as part of activities by Buddhists nationwide to celebrate the millennial anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.


The festival drew the participation of provincial authorities, the committee of religious affairs, local people and more than 300 monks and nuns.


Superior Bonze Thich Quang Thiet, Deputy Chief of the Executive Board of the Bac Lieu Buddhist Shangha, delivered a welcome speech to open the festival. In his speech, he recalled the merits of King Ly Thai To and his advisors, as well as monks, in maintaining national peace and integrity.


Buddhist pagodas and temples have recently held activities to celebrate the capital city’s 1,000th birthday and have organized requiems for the former kings of the Ly family and monks of that time.


On the occasion the Bac Lieu Buddhist Association organized a ceremony to mark the birthday of the Goddess of Mercy and open the 2010 Goddess of Mercy camp, drawing thousands of Buddhist followers. The camp will be open until July 30.

The Young Volunteer’s Green Summer Campaign 2010 launched by Hanoi’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in Hatsaiphong district, Vientiane, Laos from July 19-24 has concluded successfully.


Nguyen Hong Dan, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Union and Chairman of the Hanoi Youth Association, said that the campaign aimed to promote friendship between Hanoi and Vientiane Youth Unions and mark the 1,000 anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.


The campaign provided free health check-ups and medicines for 1,000 people and presented gifts to beneficiary and disadvantaged families. The Hanoi Union and the Vientiane Union built a club for Phothon school, a joint project between the two capitals to celebrate Hanoi’s millennial anniversary.


The Hanoi Union took part in cultural and sports activities and exchanged experiences with the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union.


This is the fourth successive year that the Hanoi Union has organised voluntary activities in Vientiane.

Various activities celebrate President Ho Chi Minh’s 120th birth anniversary

Provinces and cities nationwide have organized various events to mark the 120th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh on May 19.


** In Ho Chi Minh City, a grand meeting was held to celebrate Uncle Ho’s 120th birth anniversary in presence of Party and State leaders, as well as heroic Vietnamese mothers, heroes of armed forces and war veterans,


Speaking at the meeting, Le Thanh Hai, member of the Party’s Political Bureau and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, highlighted President Ho’s huge contributions to the nation’s revolutionary cause.


Ho Chi Minh City strived to successfully implement the current process of national industrialisation and modernisation and become the nation’s economic hub, he said.


Participants in the event also honoured 212 outstanding individuals and organisations in the movement for “Studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example”.


** Similar events also took place in Hanoi on May 19 to celebrate President Ho’s 120th birthday.


Present at the meeting were Public Security Minister General Le Hong Anh, deputy ministers, senior Party officials and a large number of soldiers and Youth Union members.


General Le Hong Anh recalled memories of Uncle Ho’s life and work. President Ho Chi Minh always paid special attention to police forces and pointed out good characteristics the police needed to have, he said.


** Addressing a meeting in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province on May 19 to mark Uncle Ho’s birthday, Chairman of the Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee, Huynh Duc Hoa, emphasised the morals and intelligence of the talented leader.


President Ho set a bright example for Vietnamese people and international friends, he said.


** Similar events were held on May 19 in other provinces, including Ha Tinh, Tay Ninh, Son La, Da Nang, Tien Giang, Soc Trang, Can Tho, Kien Giang and Ca Mau to celebrate President Ho’s birthday.


The same day, an incense-offering ceremony was held in Lai Chau province to mark President Ho’s birthday and launch a tree-planting movement in his memory.

Biggest flag flown to celebrate President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday

The large national flag have been flown at the Ho Chi Minh Square in the central province of Nghe An to celebrate the 120th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday.

The 1,800 sq.m. flag, the biggest national flag in Vietnam, was flown by two large balloons.


This is the second time the flag was flown. The first time was 5 years ago on the occasion of the 115th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday.


Thousands of people and visitors in the hometown of President Ho Chi Minh gathered at the square to see the flag flying.


These days various activities have been held nationwide to celebrate the anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday.

Youth launch activities to celebrate President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday

PANO – 300 young people, representatives of thousands of members of the Ho Chi Minh City’s Youth Union took part in various activities to celebrate the 120th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birth.


After participating in an exhibition on the late President, the young people carried out voluntary programs, such as presenting gifts to poor children, visiting historical relic sites and helping children.


On this occasion, various programs about President Ho Chi Minh, such as an exhibition in Nha Rong Port and live television programs in Ho Chi Minh City, Nghe An Province and Hanoi, will be launched on May 18th.


Earlier, on May 16th, nearly 10,000 students, athletes and businessmen in Ho Chi Minh City took part in a parade on its main streets to celebrate President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday.

Diverse activities celebrate International Women’s Day

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, Huynh Dam,  sent a letter of congratulations on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day and the 1970th anniversary of the Trung Sisters’ Uprising.


In the letter to the Vietnam Women’s Union, Vietnamese heroic mothers, heroic women labourers and all women throughout the country, Mr Dam emphasized that the VFF is always proud of the glorious tradition and great contributions of Vietnamese women to the struggle for national independence, construction and defence.


*** International Women’s Day and the 1970th anniversary of the Trung Sisters’ Uprising were celebrated in HCM City on March 6 by the Municipal Women’s Union.


Over the past year, emulation movements were launched with the participation of women from different social strata. The women’s chapters provided 1,400 members with a total of VND57 billion to help generate jobs, increase incomes and develop their household economy.


Through the campaign “Studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example”, the HCM City Women’s Union encouraged nearly 2,000 nuns to take part many practical social activities and commended 100 outstanding women who recorded significant achievements in emulation movements.


*** Similar events were also celebrated in Quang Binh on March 5, drawing the participation of nearly 300 provincial women.  Female workers in Quang Binh now account for 48 percent of the province’s total workforce and 60 percent of them achieve from education degrees.


At a ceremony to mark this year’s International Women’s Day, the Quang Binh Women’s Union collected VND330 million to help women in poverty stricken areas.
