Vietnam to host U19 Women Football Championships 2011

Vietnam has just been entrusted by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to host the final round of the U19 Women Football Champion 2011, according to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

The final round will kick off on October 6th, 2011 and last until October 16th.

The Vietnamese U19 Female Football team will take part in the event after it successfully finished the second round.

The 5 other teams that will play in the final round include Japan, the Republic of Korea, the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea, China and Australia.

Vietnamese officials expect that the Vietnamese female footballers will reap good fruits when they play in Vietnam as the host team.

Vietnam ranks third at Asian Aerobics Championships

Vietnam ranked third with two gold, three silver and six bronze medals at the second Asian Aerobics Championships that concluded in Ho Chi Minh City on December 17.

Vietnamese athletes secured two golds in women’s single and team events.
Meanwhile, Japan took the lead in the medal tally with four golds and two silvers. It was followed by China with three golds.

The championships drew 139 athletes from 11 nations and territories that competed in the men and women’s single and mixed events and team events in three age groups.

Vovinam Championships in northern region closed

The first Vovinam Championships in the northern region concluded at Trinh Hoai Duc sports hall in Hanoi on December 12.

Hanoi won the championship title  with 7 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals. It was followed by Yen Bai with 3 golds and 2 silvers and Tuyen Quang with 3 golds and 2 bronzes.

The event was organised by Hanoi’s Vovinam Federation and the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

It attracted 268 players from 23 cities and provinces in the northern region, competing for 38 sets of medals from December 10.

Vovinam originated in Hanoi in 1938, and was established by martial arts instructor Nguyen Loc. In 1954, Vovinam spread to the southern region, then later to the rest of the country and the world.

Now Vovinam is a major event at the Asian Indoor Games and SEA Games.

Vietnam hosts Asian aerobics championships

126 athletes from 10 countries and territories in the region will compete in the second Asian Aerobics Championship in Ho Chi Minh City, from December 16-18.

Mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Iran, and Mongolia will also be taking part.

The athletes will compete in men’s and women’s singles and doubles events as well as team events in three different age groups. Hosts Vietnam will participate in every event to prepare for the 2012 world championships.

Organised by the Asian Gymnastics Federation, the competition is one of biggest events in the region and attracts Asia’s leading athletes.

Futsal Championships taking place in Dak Lak

The International Futsal Championships is currently underway in the central highland province of Dak Lak from May 20-25.

Competing at the Championships are eight teams from four countries including the Philippines, Thailand’s All Stars and Port Authority and Japan’s Nippon All Stars and four teams from Vietnam: Pham Gia, Thai Son Nam from Ho Chi Minh City, Hoang Thu from Da Nang and Sanna from Khanh Hoa.

Two teams from Thailand are All Stars and Port Authority, which won the Thai Futsal Championships in 2008, came 4th at the 2010 AFC Champion’s League.

In the tournament’s first match, Pham Gia held Thailand’s All Stars to a 4-4 draw.

Fifteen teams from around the country took part in the 28th National Table Tennis Championships, Nhan Dan (People) newspaper Cup, held in the southern city of My Tho, Tien Giang province May 10.

The event, which was organised by the Nhan Dan newspaper, is part of the 6th National Sport Games.

The tournament saw top leading players competing for the men’s and women’s events, singles, doubles and team.

National Petanque Championships get underway

The 2010 National Petanque Championships got underway in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on May 6.

About 150 players from 12 provinces and cities nationwide including Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Hanoi, Nghe An, Can Tho, Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Dong Thap, Ho Chi Minh City, Yen Bai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Military Zone 3 will compete in the men’s and women’s singles, doubles and trios.

The ten-day event aims to assess the development of petanque in the country and helps the athletes to prepare for the international championships in 2010 and in the coming years.

Petanque is an outdoor bowling game, also known as boules, which has its origins in France, where a heavy set of metal balls is tossed to the playing area backhanded.

Vietnam to join world junior taekwondo championships

Six Vietnamese teakwondo athletes will take part in the 8th WTF World Junior Taekwondo Championships which will be held in Tiajuana, Mexico from March 6-9.

The tournament draws the participation of more than 750 athletes from 85 countries and territories. Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia are the representatives from Southeast Asian region.

At the tournament, Vietnam features six athletes including Mai Tan Phat (men’s 48 kg category), Nguyen Quoc Cuong (men’s 55kg), To Minh Nhat (men’s 63 kg), Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang (women’s 44 kg), Doan Thi Huong Giang (women’s 49kg) and Nguyen Thanh Thao (women’s 55 kg). 

Before the World Junior Championships, the Vietnamese athletes will participate in the WTF Qualification Tournament for 2010 Youth Olympic Games, also held in Mexico from March 3-4.
