Concerts mark Polish composer Chopin’s 200th birthday

Special concerts celebrating the 200th birthday of talented Polish composer Federich Chopin will be held at the Hanoi Opera House on September 7 and 8.

The music performance is organized by the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra with participation of world-renowned Japanese conductor Tetsuji Honna who has been musical adviser and conductor of the VNSO since 2001 and talented young Vietnamese pianist Luu Hong Quang.

Quang will perform “Concerto No.1 E minor” by Frederic Chopin and “Symphony No.6 ‘Pathetique’” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Born in 1990, Quang was introduced to piano early. From 1996 to 2006 he studied at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

He is now a student of the Australia International Conservatorium of Music (AICM) after winning a full scholarship offered by the AICM in November 2006.

He has won many international awards, including the Excellent Prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition held in Tokyo, second prize at the Valtidone Piano International Competition in Italy in June 2008, and first prize at the “Recital Award” organized by The Sydney Eisteddfod in June and August 2008.

Last July and December, the young Vietnamese pianist won the International Chopin Piano Competition in Sydney and was nominated to perform at the “Encore Program” organized by the New South Wales State education board at the Sydney Opera House.

He has given many recitals and played with symphony orchestras in Vietnam, Japan, Australia, and Italy.

Tickets to the shows cost VND150,000 (US$7.73) to VND300,000.
