Mister Vietnam 2010 contest this weekend

Mister Vietnam 2010 contest will announce their winner at the Vung Tau Sporting Hall on January 1, 2011.

The contest which began in November is now on its final round. It is the first beauty contest for men in the country and besides the main title their will be other titles given such as Mister Environment to Le Kien Dinh; Mister Sport to Nguyen Nhat Duy; Mister Talent to Pham Thanh, Mister Gentleman to Vu Duy Hung and Mister Intelligence Do Ba Dat.


The judges include historian Duong Trung Quoc, PhD, Tham Hoang Diep, Singer Jimmii Nguyen, actress Truong Ngoc Anh, model Pham Thanh Hang, photographer Quoc Huy, fashion designers Nguyen Cong Tri and Do Manh Cuong.


Ngo Tien Doan, a representative of the organizing committee and a former Mister International 2008 said the pageant aims to honor beauty of the physical body and the spirit and knowledge of Vietnamese men. The essential qualities needed to win this contest are confidence, style, elegance and intelligence.
The winner will not only receive a cash prize of VND750 million (US$37,500) but will represent Vietnam at the Mister International 2011 pageant in the Philippines.


Mister International 2010 Tyan Terry has already arrived in Vietnam to take part in the event.

The contest is jointly hosted by the Vietnam Television VTV9 and the Bac Dau Entertainment Company and sponsored by Nha Be Garment Company. Its final night will be broadcast live on VTV9, VTV4, and RTV channels.

New TV Singing Contest 2010

Minh Chuyen of Ha Nam Province on January 2 won the first prize at the Sao Mai Diem Hen (Music Star Rendezvous) music contest 2010.  The contest is organises by Viet Nam Television in order to discover future pop stars.

The event took place at Maximax Sport Hall in Ho Chi Minh City.


Luong Viet Quang, from Ho Chi Minh City, took home the ‘Most Favourite Singer’ award, chosen by the audience.


Dinh Manh Ninh from Hanoi, and Ha Hoai Thu from Quang Ninh Province, won the most ‘Promising Singer’ title.


Established in 2004, the Sao Mai Diem Hen musical contest is regarded as one of the most prestigious national musical contests. It is an occasion for young singers to demonstrate their talents in the field of folk-song, opera, pop and rock music.


The Sao Mai Award winners should have many opportunities, to develop further their musical talents and be successful in, their future careers, said organising board member Huyen Thanh.


Pop star Phuong Linh won the event in 2006 and many opportunities developed because of her winning the contest.

Photo contest to promote ‘World heritage in Vietnam’

A photography contest entitled ‘World heritage in Vietnam’ has just been launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It runs from January until July.

                             Hoi An ancient town

The competition aims to collect and release collections of various artistic photographic works on Vietnam world’s heritages sites. This is in order to promote and honor these heritage sites, and to educate the public about the preservation of our inheritance.


Vietnam has currently 13 world heritages sites recognized by UNESCO. These include: the Complex of Hue Monuments; Ha Long Bay; My Son Sanctuary; Hoi An Ancient Town; Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park; Hue Royal court music; the Gong Culture in the Central Highlands; love duet singing of Bac Ninh; the chamber music of Ca Tru; the Wood-blocks of Nguyen Dynasty, the Doctoral stone steles in the Temple of Literature; Thang Long Royal Citadel; and the Saint Giong festival.


The best photographs will be chosen and displayed at exhibitions in both Ha Noi and Da Nang on the 66th Anniversary of our National Day – September 2, 2011.

The 6th National Technological Creation contest for teenagers


QĐND – Thursday, December 16, 2010, 21:5 (GMT+7)

On December 14th, Vietnam Fund for Supporting Technological Creations (VIFOTEC) held a ceremony to present prizes to winners of their 6th contest for youths and teenagers.


There was 1 special prize, 4 first, 9 second, 20 third and 40 consolation prizes, out of 321 entries.


The special prize went to Nguyen Văn Binh,17 from Hiep Hoa II High School in Bac Giang, for his “Versatile Robot for Agriculture”.


Apart from VIFOTEC, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) also handed over prizes to Nguyen Van Hoa and Nguyen Thi Quynh Nhu, students from Thuan My Primary School in Chau Thanh District, Long An Province, for their ideas. Quynh Nhu had “Green idea-Ao Dai made of peas”.

Ethnic minority contestant wins HCMC Television music contest

H’Zina Bya from the central highland province of Dak Lak won the first prize of  the Ho Chi Minh City Television annual singing contest entitled “TV Singing Star” ended at Hoa Binh Theater on December 1.

The singer received 44.29 % of the support of voters. She also got the title “Best ethnic minority contestant”.

The second and third places went to Do Xuan Son of the northern city of Hai Phong and Doan Phuong Thao from the central city of Da Nang.

Son took home two awards including “Best voice in song honoring Thang Long –Hanoi” and “Best performing style”. Meanwhile Thao was awarded the “Best voice in revolutionary traditional song” title.

Tran Thi To Ny won “Youngest contestant” and “Best voice in folk song” awards.

The “Best voice in song praising Ho Chi Minh City” belonged to Pham Trung Kien.

The organization board also gave four fourth prizes and five Encouragement Awards.

Vietnam honored at international piano contest

Hoang Pham Tra Mi, student of the Vietnam National Academy for Music, won the first prize in the C category at the Singapore International Chopin Piano tournament, which ended on Dec. 5.

The 13-year-old student triumphed over 29 competitors to take the first prize for her performance of Ballades No 1 and Etudes No.5. She had previously received a golden medal at the Asian music festival in the Republic of Korea in July.


PhD Ta Quang Dong led the Vietnamese delegation including seven contestants, Professor Tran Thu Ha and piano teachers of the Vietnam National Academy for Music.


The competition attracted 145 candidates from 15 countries, such as China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and the host nation, Singapore.


The contest commemorating the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth was organized for the first time by the Chopin Society (Singapore) and the Nan yang Academy of Fine Arts. Contestants were required to perform Chopin’s works for a fixed period, depending on their age.

15 candidates win Prudential essay contest in Mekong Delta

The examiner board of the “Prudential – Good Essay, Good Writing” contest has chosen 15 best candidates to award prizes — one first prize, two second prizes, two third prizes and 10 consolation prizes.

Secondary school students take part in the “Prudential-Good Essay, Good Writing’ contest 2010 in HCM City.


The final round of the contest was held in Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang on December 4 with participation of 39 candidates from the delta’s 13 provinces.


The final round was held by Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper, the provincial Department of Education and Training, and Soc Trang Newspaper.


The topic of the competition reflects the socio-cultural and economic development of the country, the thinking of teenagers and their passion for literature and good handwriting.


According to 13 examiners, this year’s exam question was relatively hard but it required candidates to bring into play their creativeness and use real knowledge to complete the examination.


Many candidates showed their thoughts and strange solutions in the examination, said an examiner.


The award ceremony for the essay contest will be held at Soc Trang Province’s political school on December 5.


On the occasion, SGGP and life insurer Prudential Vietnam will offer 10 scholarships, worth VND1 million each, to poor students in the province.

Creative contest opens to worldwide challengers

Qualcomm is officially launching their first ever Augmented Reality Developer Challenge, which opens to all worldwide computing users, with US$200,000 in the total prize money.

The contest is on a mission to help developers improve their imagination and talent upon the support of the Qualcomm latest-released component, Qualcomnn AR SDK.


Contestants can develop their products in different fields; including games, educational applications, media and marketing tools, and instructional manuals.

The AR Challenge requires that the Qualcomm AR SDK be used for the detection and tracking components of submitted app, but no other restrictions on other tools that the contestants can use are contemplated.

The AR Challenge is only for AR software applications and not AR hardware. To be considered for the Challenge, every application must run on at least one of the commercially available, off-the-shelf Android devices that the Qualcomm AR SDK supports. The device must not require any custom hardware or any hardware additions or modifications to a commercially available Android device.


For those who are interested in the contest and willing to be part of it, they need to complete their online application at the submission site: http://developer.qualcomm.com/dev/augmented-reality/developer-challenge at first, and later visit another Qualcomm website: https://ar.qualcomm.com/qdevnet/sdk to download the useful component, before they get things started.

The site for submissions will close on Jan 7, 2011 and the judging will begin soon then. The list of winners will be announced publicly on Feb 14, 2011.

Top winner will pocket $125,000 while the runner-up and the second runner-up will respectively be awarded $50,000 and $25,000. The award ceremony will be hosted at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Feb 14, 2011.

Bayer Vietnam launches “Bayer Millionaire” contest

Bayer Vietnam on November 23 started the “Bayer Millionaire” contest for excellent farmers in the Mekong Delta provinces.


The contest will run from November 26 to April 15, 2011 with participation of 10,000 farmers from nine cities and provinces of Mekong Delta.

The champion will receive VND300 million (US$15,000).


Bayer Vietnam is a subsidiary of Germany-based Bayer AG. Bayer entered the Vietnam market in 1994 with two main product ranges for livestock and aquaculture.
