Vietnam commits to continue DaO

QĐND – Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 20:58 (GMT+7)

PANO – The conference “Delivering as One: Lessons from country-led evaluations and the way forward” continues with the official opening of the high-level segment on the morning of June 16th in Hanoi.

The session drew Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, other high-ranking officials and the heads of 52 participating delegations.

Addressing the meeting, the Vietnamese Prime Minister highlighted the importance and the need to reform UN and actively implement the “Delivering as One” (DaO) initiative.

“Joining common efforts to enhance the capacity of UN in current circumstances and renew operational mechanisms of UN agencies, Vietnam is one of the 8 UN’s member nations, which have voluntarily implemented DaO since 2007,” said the Prime Minister.

“As a programme pilot country, Vietnam has been trying its best to coordinate with all parts of the UN development system over the past years and the Vietnamese Government also commit to continue its supports and efforts to implement the programmes in the years ahead,” the Prime Minister stressed.

In his speech, he also gave 3 main suggestions, as follows:

Firstly, for further success in the implementation of DaO in Vietnam and the other 7 countries, pilot nations should actively lead in the process; Governments should boost its leaderships; and the 8 pilot countries and concerned parties should together share valuable lessons and experiences.

Secondly, the United Nations should render more supports to the pilot nations and institutionalize widely agreed results from the initiative implementation.

Thirdly, the initiative should provide stable capital for the pilot nations and UN activities in the nations.

The Prime Minister also confirmed that this conference was a good chance for UN, the 8 nations, international organizations and international community as a whole to review, evaluate results as well as share and draw lessons from the reality.

The conference closed on the afternoon of the same day after the delegates discussed a series of issues related to the initiative implementation and finally issued the Statement of Outcomes.

Tam Dao – ideal destination for holidays

QĐND – Saturday, May 08, 2010, 22:30 (GMT+7)

About 86km from Hanoi, the Tam Dao mountain range extends for 50km with natural landscapes, a romantic and quiet atmosphere, and fresh air. It might be the ideal destination for relaxation.

Driving about an hour from Hanoi, travelers will reach Phuc Yen Town of Vinh Phuc Province. Then, for another half an hour, travelers follow a narrow road along the foot of the mountains under the shadows of pine trees to reach Tam Dao Town.

Those who set foot in this area for the first time will be surprised to feel a change in the weather when they are about ten kilometers from Tam Dao. Being situated at a height of more than 1,000 meters above sea level, the weather in Tam Dao is similar to Sapa’s in Lao Cai Province, which offers tourists the ability to experience four seasons in one day.

The day starts with spring winds, turns hot at noon like in the summer, has the mild weather of autumn when it turns dark, and is rather cold at night like in the winter.

Visiting this place, tourists also enjoy the feeling of returning to nature with beautifully landscaped valleys, hills, mountains and waterfalls as well as other tourism sites such as Thac Bac (Silver Falls), Suoi Tien (Stream of the Goddess), Cau Hen Ho (Dating Bridge), Cong Troi (Gate of Heaven), Den Thanh Tran (Temple of the Tran God), and the Tam Dao National Park that has a total area of 19,000ha with many rare species of fauna and flora.
