Spring Flower Festival 2011 to display 8,000 exhibits

The Spring Flower Festival for 2011 will be held at Tao Dan Park in HCM City from lunar December 25 to lunar January 6, 2011 (January 28 to February 8, 2011).

The annual festival will feature around 8,000 exhibits including bonsai trees, ornamental plants, orchids, cacti, apricots and peach blossoms, ornamental birds, fruit arrangements and rock gardens from more than 600 Vietnamese and foreign artisans and flower clubs.


The annual festival is a traditional, cultural activity in Ho Chi Minh City. It is for the occasion of the Lunar New Year and attracts many people to the city.


Tourists and visitors will have a chance to enjoy many things such as: a bird singing competition, traditional music, folk games, a food fair, painting and a calligraphy exhibition.


Three special music performances will take place in the opening ceremony of the festival, which is the evening of lunar December 25.


The event aims to mark the 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the 100th anniversary to the day late President Ho Chi Minh left Vietnam to seek a way for national salvation at Ben Nha Rong (Nha Rong Wharf) in 1911.

Hanoi photos on display in France

A photographic exhibition about Hanoi opened at the headquarters of the Vietnamese People’s Association in Paris, France on October 18.


The exhibition entitled “Hanoi Today” introduced works taken by French photographers Dominique de Miscault and Daniel Frydman and Vietnamese photographer, Nguyen Hai Son. It aims to help the French public gain a better understanding of Hanoi, its daily life, special culture and attractive landscapes.


The exhibition will run until October 28.


The “Hanoi Today” exhibition by Dominique de Miscault was previously shown in Arcueille, southeast of Paris.

City to display portrait sketches of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers

140 portrait sketches of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers of painters Dang Ai Viet will be displayed at the Southern Women’s Museum in Ho Chi Minh City on October 18.

The exhibits are selected from 288 works of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in 24 cities and provinces that the artist met during her trans-country trip.

The paintings depict the different faces of Heroic Mothers whose sons and daughters died in the American War. The works show their happiness and their sorrow.

As a former soldier herself and a mother, the painter understands the pain the Heroic Mothers had to suffer. “They are typical images of Vietnamese women’s sacrifice and indomitable spirit. I want to save all their faces for the next generations,” she said.

“I am a lucky people. I have abundant chances to meet, talk and kiss many heroic mothers. Almost all of them have a great deep pain. I have painted while crying several times” she added.

Painter Dang Ai Viet, 62, is the wife of the late People’s Artist Pham Khac. She has travelled from Ho Chi Minh City to Ha Noi for painting hundreds of Heroic Mothers across the nation.

She divide her project titled “The journey of time” into three periods. In the first stage from February 19 to August 19, she completed 24 portraits of Vietnamese heroic mothers in 24 cities and provinces from the southern province of Dong Nai to the North.

In the second phase from August 25 to February, 2011, she has drawn Heroic Mothers in Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta region.

She will paint Heroic Mothers in some northern provinces in the last step to be kicked off in March, 2011.

The project is expected to finish in September, 2011.

Photos of Halong Bay on display in New York

A photo exhibition on Ha Long Bay opened in New York on Aug. 11 as part of campaign to vote for the Vietnamese bay as world natural wonder.

Fifty photos, depicting the beauty of the Bay, as well as its potential for tourism, bio-diversity and plentiful flora and fauna are on display.


At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Bui The Giang, Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam at the UN, stated that the beauty of Halong has been not only in Vietnamese people’s mind, but also attract foreign friends, including Americans. He stressed that the exhibition was held as the fine development of bilateral relations between Vietnamese and American people.


The exhibition will last until Aug. 18.

The final voting stage for world natural wonders will take place between 2010 and 2011.

Tourism artistic photos on display

The award presentation ceremony of the fifth National Tourism Artistic Photo Contest took place in Hanoi on July 1, coinciding with the opening of an exhibition showcasing the outstanding photos.


The contest and exhibition, entitled “Vietnam – My Homeland”, are activities to mark the 50th founding anniversary of Vietnam’s tourism industry (July 9, 1960-2010).


The contest, launched in October 2009, had received 4,426 colour as well as black and white photos, including 121 photo sets of 456 photographers from 51 provinces and cities nationwide. Hanoi recorded the largest number of contestants with 112 photographers.


The Organising Board selected over 136 works for the final round and display. Hanoian photographer Ta Quang Bao won the special prize with his set of photos entitled “Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) Gongs” while the first prize went to Tran Cao Bao Long from Ho Chi Minh City.


The exhibition, open at 29 Hang Bai, Hanoi, will last until July 5.

Over 100 Thai businesses to display products in Vietnam

More than 100 Thai businesses will participate in an exposition of Thailand ’s products, scheduled to be held in Hanoi from August 7-10.

The businesses will showcase their machineries, industrial and electric products, foods, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals and handicrafts at 150 booths.

At a press briefing on August 1, Minister counselor-in charge of commercial affairs at the Thai embassy in Hanoi Tawaichai Koopirom appreciated Vietnam ’s development potential and said that Vietnam is a good destination for Thai entrepreneurs to do businesses.

Apart from introducing their products, Thai businesses will also explore the Vietnamese market after joining the WTO to further their ties with Vietnamese partners, he added.

Art performances that aim to boost Vietnam- Thailand cooperation and cultural exchange will be held during the event.

The exposition, held annually in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City , is part of a trade promotion programme of Thailand ’s Ministry of Trade.-
