NA delegates inspect Ly Son island district

A delegate of the 12th National Assembly has asked authorities of the central province of Quang Ngai to pay more attention to Ly Son island district, to disseminate information on defending sea and island sovereignty, and to develop seafood and other spearhead economies.

Chairman of the NA’s Committee for Defence and Security Le Quang Binh made the statement during his inspection tour to Ly Son district on August 2.

Deputy Chair of the provincial People’s Committee Truong Ngoc Nhi briefed the NA delegation on Quang Ngai’s achievements in socio-economic development and defence and security in past years and in the first half of 2010.

Nhi spoke of fishing activities in the East Sea and Quang Ngai and Ly Son’s work to defend sea and island sovereignty as well as the advantages and difficulties the province is facing.

Chairman of the Ly Son District People’s Committee Vo Xuan Huyen reported that his district’s economic sectors recorded an annual increase of 15 percent during the 2004-2009 period and a year-on-year increase of 27.2 percent in the first half of 2010.

Aquatic production value went up 12.6 percent, industrial and handicraft production value up more than 34 percent, and trade and services were up 25 percent, said Huyen, adding that per-capita income increased from 5.3 million VND in 2004 to almost 10 million VND in 2010.

The proportion of seafood and trade and services in the whole economy has increased while the consolidation of defence and security were maintained, he said.

Mountainous district awaits volunteer students from HCMC

More than 700 students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics will come to four communes in the Bu Gia Map border district of Binh Phuoc Province for the annual Green Summer Voluntary Campaign 2010, from July 6 to 28.

Volunteer students protect the environment by making living areas cleaner

The campaign will mark the fourth time that students from the HCMC University of Economics have visited the mountainous province of Binh Phuoc.

For a few weeks, students will live and work together with local residents, forging deep impressions on them with their spirit, enthusiasm, responsibility and commitment.

Young volunteers will help local people repair bridges, roads, and teach children.

They will bring 20 computers to the district to teach IT to young people and will hand them over to local young people after the campaign.

The students will also build two houses for disadvantaged families in the Duc Hanh and Long Binh communes.

Of course, there will be friendly music performances between students and local people throughout the campaign.

The annual charity activities hold great significance for students. They are always eager to support the poor in remote areas in order serve the communities usefully and honorably.

Bu Gia Map is a very poor and remote district, established November 1, 2009, near the Cambodian border in Binh Phuoc. The province located in the Southern Key Economic Zone, borders Dak Nong province in the North, Binh Duong province in the South, Lam Dong and Dong Nai provinces in the East and Tay Ninh province and Cambodia in the West. The province shares a curved borderline with Cambodia of over 240 kilometers. Dong Xoai Township is the economic and cultural center of Binh Phuoc province, 128Km from Ho Chi Minh City
The Binh Phuoc province has attracted many tourists who come there to see the Ta Thiet military base, Loc Ninh relation house, and waterfalls.

NA Chairman meets voters in Ba Dinh district

On May 3, a National Assembly (NA) delegation led by Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong met voters in Ba Dinh district to inform them of the content of the 7th session of the 12th NA and collect their opinions.

The seventh session of the 12th NA legislature is scheduled to open on May 20 for more than one month, during which the NA deputies will discuss and finalise many important issues related to legislature and supervision.

Voters praised the NA’s efforts to renew its operations and enhance its role in boosting national development. They expressed their wish that the NA will continue to strictly control issues such as corruption, superstition, ineffective capital construction investment and rising prices.

NA Chairman Trong acknowledged voters’ opinions which will be submitted to the NA in the upcoming session and confirmed that the NA would perform its supervisory role in a more effective and practical manner.
