Vietnam to host final round of Asia U19 Women’s Football Champs

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) granted Vietnam clearance to host the final round of the Asia U19 Women’s Football Championship 2011.


The championship will take place from October 6 to 16, 2011.


After successfully competing in the second qualifying round, the Vietnamese U19 team will enter the final round with five others – Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, China and Australia.


Vietnam will announce the match-ups in the near future.

Vietnam to host U19 Women Football Championships 2011

Vietnam has just been entrusted by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to host the final round of the U19 Women Football Champion 2011, according to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).


The final round will kick off on October 6th, 2011 and last until October 16th.


The Vietnamese U19 Female Football team will take part in the event after it successfully finished the second round.


The 5 other teams that will play in the final round include Japan, the Republic of Korea, the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea, China and Australia.


Vietnamese officials expect that the Vietnamese female footballers will reap good fruits when they play in Vietnam as the host team.

Ho Chi Minh City Youth’s Cultural House has mapped out numerous cultural activities to welcome in the New Year from December 24 to 31, according to the head of the Event Planning Service Department of the Youth’s Cultural House, Nguyen Hong Phuc.

The weeklong festival, which is called “Welcome New Year 2011”, will bring free and interesting programs for the youth. These will include fashion and music performances, singing contest, exciting games and other activities.


On December 24, it will be the “Christmas Gala 2010” and the “Dance of Hair-Spring fashion” will be on December 31. These will be the main highlights of the festival. 


Ho Chi Minh City Youth’s Cultural House received more than 30,000 visitors in the “Welcome New Year 2010” festival.

City to host international food festival

An international food festival featuring special dishes of more than 20 countries throughout the country will take place at the 23/9 (September 23) Park in Ho chi Minh City at the end of December, said the organizer,  Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism of the city.

Highlights of the event will include a cooking contest, giving visitors a chance to taste special dishes; a display of Vietnamese and world dishes; a new record of a giant banh xeo (Vietnamese rice pancake); music shows; folk games and more.

The opening ceremony will open with a parade and be broadcast live on Ho Chi Minh City Television’s HTV9 channel on December 26.

The food festival will run until January 2.

Women’s club set to host annual charity bazaar

An annual charity bazaar will be held on Nov. 28 by the Hanoi International Women’s Club, a non-profit social group of expatriate women.


The 19th annual bazaar, at the Water Sport Centre which is opposite to the My Dinh National Stadium, would showcase the diverse cultures of the expatriate community in Hanoi and so would be the perfect place to look for handicrafts from all over the world, a club spokesperson said.


There would be a kid’s corner to keep the little ones entertained while adults could bid on items in the silent auction or simply kick back with a cold drink and enjoy the cuisine of more than 30 countries.


The bazaar was supported by embassies and communities and local and foreign businesses. All the proceeds would go to supporting charities in and around Hanoi.


Tickets cost 100,000 VND (5 USD) for adults and 50,000 VND for children aged 3-12. Children under 3 are free. Tickets will be available at the gate or can be purchased in advance from Pure Heaven, JAFA, Jaspas, Oasis, and Restaurant Number Five. The 1st national zither festival will be held at the HCM City Labor Cultural Palace on October 30.

Nearly 120 zitherists throughout the country will join the event. The list of famous artists includes Vo Van Anh, the 1st winner of the Talent Zitherist 2002 Contest; music teacher Pham Thi Tra My of the National Music Institute; Mai Thi Hong Nga, teacher of the Hue Music Institute and etc.

there is also a seminar on preserving and developing dan tranh (zither, a Vietnamese traditional 16-stringed instrument) with participation of Professor Tran Van Khe; head of the Traditional Music Department of the HCMC Conservatory of Music, musician Huynh Khai; People’s teachers Nguyen Van Doi and Pham Thuy Hoan and more.

The Vietnamese zither (dan tranh) is also known as Dan Thap Luc or sixteen-stringed zither. It has a trapezium-shape, 110-120 cm in length. The large end is 25-30 cm in width with holes and to hang the strings. The narrow is 15-20 cm in width with 16 tuning keys on the surface of the instrument. The strings are made of silk or then copper and now steel.
Players use all fingers with plectrums on the thumb. The music of the dan tranh is usually bright and full of cheerfulness. The instrument is often performed solo or in concert, to accompany poem chanting, singing, performances of traditional orchestra.
