Vietnamese Judo competes for Olympic London 2012

Two Vietnamese judo martial artists Van Ngoc Tu (under 48kg) and Nguyen Thi Lan (under 57kg) are participating the Olympic London 2012 qualifying round held in Japan from December 11-13.

Tu is now number 58 in the world group A but in the group B for the Asian region ranks second after a martial artist from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea with only 2 points less.

The International Judo Federation will select 20 martial artists from group A and one another from group B for the coming Olympic.

Based on her performance, Tu has a chance to top group B with 28 points gained from qualifying round in Mongolia before arriving to the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China in November.

Vietnam wins two golds at Hanoi judo tourney

Host Vietnam bagged two gold medals on April 17, the first day of the 2010 Hanoi International Judo Tournament.

Van Ngoc Tu won the first gold for Vietnam in the women’s under-48kg event, while the other gold medal went  to Huynh Nhat Thong in the men’s under-55kg category.

Vietnamese artists had advanced to seven out of eight finals on the day, but five of them lost their games to rivals from the Republic of Korea (RoK).

Experts said the host athletes are likely to take more gold medals on the last day of the tourney, which has drawn the participation of 110 artists, including 53 from the RoK, Laos, Hong Kong , Germany and France.

53 foreigners to take part in int’l judo tourney in Hanoi

About 110 martial artists, including 53 from the Republic of Korea, Laos, Hong Kong, Germany and France, will compete in the 2010 International Judo Tournament to be held in Hanoi on April 17-18.

They will be divided into eight weight categories for both men and women to compete for 16 sets of medals.

Vietnam will send national hopefuls such as Van Ngoc Tu, Nguyen Thi Kieu and Nguyen Nhat Thong to the tournament. Athletes from the national junior Judo team will also take part in the event.

Korean athletes are expected to grab between 8-10 gold medals to top the medal tally.
