QĐND – Saturday, October 17, 2009, 19:24 (GMT+7)

A business delegation led by Deputy Chairman and General Secretary of the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA), Truong Thi Thong, made a working trip to the Netherlands to seek business opportunities and boost trade between the two countries.

The delegation comprised nearly 20 businesses operating in pepper processing and trading. Their working trip was part of the national key trade promotion programme.

During the visit, Vietnamese businesses had working sessions with the Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) under the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a number of Dutch businesses involved in processing and distributing pepper products. The delegation also visited Rotterdam, the largest container port in Europe.

The visit helped Vietnamese businesses understand more about the way of increasing export value, as well as the criteria and procedures for participating in projects to increase export of Vietnamese products, including pepper, to the European market.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in 2008 Vietnam earned US$18.5 million exporting pepper to the Netherlands, up 12 percent over the previous year. In the first seven months of this year, the country’s pepper exports to the Netherlands have reached nearly US$12 million.
