The two events are co-organized by Thailand’s Bangkok Exhibition Services Ltd., German company Messe Düsseldorf Asia, and VietCham Expo – the exhibition services company of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Messe Düsseldorf Asia managing director Gernot Ringling, speaking as a co-organizer of the plastics and rubber exhibition, said, “Among the ASEAN countries, Vietnam will continue to rank highly as an investment destination. Companies in the manufacturing sector, particularly in plastics and rubber processing, are working actively to upgrade their technology capabilities to compete better on the global stage.”

“This trend makes Plastics and Rubber Vietnam an event more important business to business event in Vietnam and on the international calendar.”

The agenda includes a workshop on packaging and processing for food safety, organized by the Vietnam Association of Food Science and Technology on Mar. 19.

Other highlights are a seminar on “Lean Sigma Six on the Packaging Industry” organized by Lean 6 Sigma Network, and a conference on industrial workspace cooling organized by Waterline Vietnam Company.

VietCham Expo director Bui Thi Thuc Anh said ProPak and Plastics & Rubber are Vietnam’s largest exhibitions in the industries, held every two years.

Seven Italian companies are attending the three-day exhibitions, which display the industries’ latest solutions and technologies. The Italian firms are Asep Systems, Omag, Pavan, Priamo, Seital S.r.L, Tecmon, and Zanotti.

In a message to the two exhibitions, Vietnamese Vice Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Bien wrote, “We believe that with rapidly increasing demands on the applications of plastics, rubber and packaging products in automotive, electronics, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, sub-contracting and other packaging industries in Vietnam, these exhibitions are a great opportunity for companies to promote, look for partners, exchange experience and to modernize their manufacturing systems.”

Green packaging firm halts production

In Uncategorized on August 27, 2008 at 4:22 pm

HCM CITY — The manufacturing of a new environmentally friendly packaging product designed by a HCM City man and enthusiastically received by foreign and local buyers has been suspended for lack of sponsorship.

The designer, Tran Quoc Toan of HCM City, created the bio-degradable product for use in flower pots and for packaging goods such as electronic components and fruit.

Toan says two years ago he moved his factory from HCM City to Mo Cay District of Ben Tre Province nearer his raw material sources to reduce costs, but he still lacks adequate facilities and funds.

Product orders from both foreign and domestic partners have rolled in but he has had to suspend production and make other products for agricultural uses.

The factory needs about VND1 billion (US$60,000) to buy machines, assembly lines, and power supplies to continue producing, but Toan cannot get a loan from banks or credit organisations.

Toan says he looks forward to receiving support from authorities and private organisations to continue his work.

The environmentally friendly pack’s composition includes a sugarcane bagasse, coconut fiber, and additives such as plaster and pine resin.

The waterproof product can bear a temperature of minus 10 to 110 degrees Celsius and can be re-used many times.

According to material technology specialists, the material could be used as a replacement for plastic, which is non-biodegradable. —
