In his letter, Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet wrote “over the past half century, the former Soviet Union-Vietnam Association and its successor – the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association – have made significant contributions to strengthening and promoting the comradeship, friendship and effective cooperation between the two countries.”

The President affirms that Vietnamese Party, State and people always bear in their mind the former Soviet Union and the Russian people’s unselfish help, both spiritual and material, to the Vietnamese people in their past severe struggle against foreign invaders and their current national construction.

On this occasion, President Triet signed a decision to conferring the Friendship Order to the RVFA.

Established in 1958, the RVFA now has thousands of members with 20 chapters in Russia’s cities and provinces. While, the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association in Vietnam has 18 chapters nationwide.-
