Tien Giang province opens socio-economic trade fair

A trade fair on the socio-economic achievements of My Tho city, Tien Giang province, opened on January 10 in Hung Vuong street of My Tho city.


The event attracted 200 showcases by 17 businesses from My Tho city and 70 other from Tien Giang and neighbouring provinces. 


Most of them displayed agricultural and industrial products and services under the campaign “Vietnamese people use Vietnamese goods”. 


Other programmes, such as presenting gifts for the poor and art performance will take place at the trade fair. 


The event will finish on January 16.

Nguyen Tien Minh has recently been confirmed one of eight places to compete at the World Super Series Final from January 5-9 in Taiwan, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF).


Ranked sixth on the BWF Super Series Ranking, the Vietnamese No.1 player will join with seven others including Malaysian Lee Chong Wei, Long Chen and Pengyu Du from China, Thai Boonsak Ponsana, Peter Hoeg Gade and Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark, and Taufik Hidayat from Indonesia.


They will be drawn in two groups to play single round-robin format to select four best players to advance to the semifinals.


Whatever the result, each participant player will get a cash prize of at least US$4,250. Semifinalists will earn $10,000. Top two winners will win $40,000 and $20,000 respectively.

6kg baby sets birth weight record in Tien Giang

Doctor Dang Van Phuc, deputy director of the Go Cong Town General Hospital, the Mekong province of Tien Giang, said a woman gave birth to a 6kg-baby girl who is the heaviest weight ever recorded at the hospital on December 17.


This happened after a 20-minute surgery, which was successfully performed by Doctor Dang Van Phuc.


In 2006, Mother Tran Thi Phuong, 29, bore a son who weighed in at 4.2kg.


The newly born baby and the mother are healthy, said the doctor, and they will be staying at the hospital for observation for next four to five days. This is only precautionary measure, said the doctor, due to the weight of the child.

HSBC takes part in reforestation in Cat Tien National Park

HSBC Bank (Vietnam) in a joint effort  with Cat Tien National Park will launch a long-term reforestation project to cope with climate change.


Accordingly, within the next three years, HSBC Vietnam will invest nearly VND900 million to plant around 10,000 trees within the 22.5 hectares area. HSBC credit card holders can also take part in the program from August 15th.


The bank will coordinate with the Management Board of the Cat Tien National Park to plant trees for the credit card holders and hang tags with the donors’ names on the trees as recognition of their contribution to the preservation of ecosystem at the Cat Tien National Park.


The project is part of the Climate Camp project jointly held by HSBC and the Wolrd Wild for Nature (WWF) since early 2010.

Tien Giang prepares over 700,000 flower pots

My Tho flower village in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang has prepared 700,000 flower pots for the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday in February.

The number is 110,000 higher than last year.


The My Tho flower village is located in wards 8 and 9 and two suburban communes of My Phong and Tan My Chanh in My Tho town.


Besides traditional flowers like chrysanthemums, marigolds and apricot blossoms, farmers have also prepared other types of flowers like hyacinths and hydrangeas.


In My Tho town alone, around 50 households have hired more than 60 hectares of land to grow flowers for Tet.

Under the agreement, the two sides will cooperate in providing insurance products for the Vietnamese bank’s clients.


Accordingly, the bank’s clients who apply for mortgage loans will be given insurance for their pledges at the bank.


In addition, clients of the bank, including individuals or organisations, can also access other insurance products and services, such as health, asset, accident, and tourism insurances, provided by Liberty at Tien Phong Bank.

Tien Giang joins Japanese group in researching solar energy

Tien Giang (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang and Japan ’s Nippon Telegraph & Telephone (NTT) Group have agreed to cooperate in two projects researching application of solar energy.

Their aim is to produce mobile phone chargers using solar cell technology and environmental observation equipment powered by solar energy.

The Tan Huong Industrial Park has been selected for the production.-
