Hanoi and Thua Thien-Hue boost tourism

Hanoi and Thua Thien-Hue Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism signed an agreement on boosting tourism cooperation yesterday.

Under the agreement, between 2011 and 2012, the two cities will focus on popularisation, promotion and exploitation of UNESCO-recognised heritages in Hanoi and Thua Thien-Hue, including the Ancient Capital of Hue, 82 Doctoral Steles in the Temple of Literature, the central site of Thang Long Royal Citadel, the Giong Festival, ceremonial songs, Hue Royal Court Music.

Besides, Hanoi and Thua Thien-Hue Province will jointly organise road-shows, Festival Hue 2012 and the National Tourism Year 2012 in Thua Thien-Hue.

The same day, Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Department of Culture-Sports and Tourism held a road-show in Hanoi to introduce 13 big cultural, sports and tourism events to be launched in 2011 in the Province, namely Huyen Tran Temple Culture and Tourism Festival, Vietnam-Japan Food Culture Festival and Trans-Asia Road Tourism Festival, Vietnamese Food in Hue Garden and Lang Co-Legend of the Sea.

Notably, Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Department will enhance the building and improvement of tourist sites to attract more tourists.

Top ten events in culture, sports and tourism in 2010

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism officially announced ten outstanding cultural, sports and tourism activities in 2010 in Hanoi on Dec. 30. They are:

One of cultural, sports and tourism activities mark the grand celebration of the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi,

1. Cultural and fine arts activities mark major celebrations, including the 80th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the national commemoration of the Hung Kings and the Hung King Temple Festival, the 35th anniversary of the liberation of the south and national reunification, President Ho Chi Minh’s 120th birthday, the 65th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (Sept. 2) and the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam National United Front.

2. Cultural, sports and tourism activities mark the grand celebration of the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, including the biggest-ever parade held at Ba Dinh Square on October 10, the opening of the Culture-Tourism Village of Vietnamese ethnic groups, an exhibition on Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and Thang Long-Hanoi, the “Thang Long-Hanoi craft villages and streets” festival, the sport competitions and the Vietnamese film days for 1,000 years of Thang Long-Hanoi.

3. Vietnam’s heritages have been recognised by UNESCO, including the Thang Long Imperial Citadel recognised as a world cultural heritage site, the Saint Giong Festival in Phu Dong and Soc Temples as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and the 82 doctoral stone steles at the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university, recognised as a world documentary heritage.

4. Cultural activities were held to promote Vietnam’s land and people abroad, including the National Day at the 2010 Shanghai EXPO and the Vietnam Culture Week in Cuba, Mexico, Germany, Belgium, Cambodia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia, China and India.

5. International cultural and sport events were held for the first time in Vietnam, including the International Photo Exhibition, International Film Festival, International Piano Contest, Miss Earth and the Thang Long-Hanoi International Football Cup to celebrate the capital city’s millennium birthday.

6. Director and People’s Artist Dang Nhat Minh was honoured by the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his contributions to the Vietnam’s cinematography.

7. Sports festivals at all levels and the seventh national sports festival were held.

8. The Vietnamese sport delegation bagged 33 medals including those at five Olympics sport events for the first time at the 16th Asian Games (ASIAD 16); and the Vietnamese disabled athletes secured 17 medals, placing 11th out of 42 delegations at the first Asian Para Games.

9. Vietnam’s tourism sector welcomed five millionth foreign visitor.

10. Tourism promotion campaign in 2010 “Vietnam-Your destination” contributed to attract foreign tourists to Vietnam and promoting domestic tourism. The campaign helped Vietnam welcome over five million foreign arrivals, 28 million local visitors and grossed an estimated revenue of 100 trillion VND.

Vietnam’s tourism to be promoted in Cambodia

As part of activities and programs organised by the Vietnam Administration of Tourism to promote Vietnam’s tourism to the world, the agency will take part in the Travex (Travel Exchange) 2011 in Cambodia from January 18th to 22nd.

At the coming event, Vietnamese travel agencies will display images of traditional cultural identities, national traditional festivals, and famous architectures and heritages, such as those recognised by UNESCO, such as Ha Long Bay, Thang Long Citadel, Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, Hoi An Ancient Town, Central region’s Gongs.

In particular, big posters, featuring scenes of beaches, landscapes and tourist sites, will be introduced to promote Vietnam’s images of people and lands as well as tourist products to foreign visitors.

Hanoi focuses on tourism development

A seminar on tourism development and investment promotion was held by Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Hanoi on December 17.

Hanoi’s future tourism development was the focus of the event. The capital will diversify its tourism services by making the most out of its natural resources, and cultural and historical heritage. 

The sector also phases to connect tourism development with natural resources and environment protection, and improve its products and services. 

Hanoi is expected to attract more than 11.8-12 million domestic visitors and more than 1.8-2 million foreigners by 2015.

Vietnam’s tourism promoted in foreign markets

The Vietnam Administration of Tourism has been organising road-show programs in Singapore and Malaysia to promote Vietnam’s tourism abroad.

Recently, the Vietnam Administration of Tourism has worked out programs to promote Vietnam tourism in two countries, considering them key tourism markets of Vietnam.

The ongoing road show program from December 15th to 21st, has introduced famous tourist sites, new tourist products, cultural identities, plans to further develop Vietnam’s tourism to foreigners. The road-show also creates opportunities for domestic and foreign travel businesses to boost cooperation.

Tourism Year 2011 to to boost tourism in south central region

The National Tourism Year 2011 program will focus on boosting the tourist industry and to encourage more protection of our beautiful beaches in the south central region, said a tourist official on Sunday.

The organizing board met in Tuy Hoa City, central province of Phu Yen and this was to introduce more than 30 cultural, sport and tourism events, which are scheduled to take place in the south-central coastal region next year.

The South-central coastal region includes Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces and Da Nang City,
The press conference was attended by representatives from cities and provinces from all over the south-central coastal region and more than 30 press agencies.

Under the theme of “Visit Vietnam Year – Phu Yen 2011: Exotic Beach and Island”, major events of the National Tourism Year 2011 will include the international mountaineering tournament at Da Bia mount, the Vietnam-South Korea cultural exchange, the sea and island month and the ASEAN traditional music festival.

The opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year is scheduled to take place in Tuy Hoa City on April 1, 2011 to mark the 400th anniversary of the province’s establishment.

In preparation for the National Tourism Year 2011, Phu Yen Province has organized a series of cultural, sport and tourism events, aimed to popularize the National Tourism Year 2011 and to introduce the province’s exotic land to as many people as possible.

The province has built tourism facilities and has upgraded many projects and various infrastructures. With capital investment of over VND230 billion (US$11.5 million), the province’s tourism sector has launched training courses for tourism staff to improve the quality of tourist products and services.

As schedule, from December 3-10, a tourism research team has been studying famous tourist spots from Khanh Hoa Province to Da Nang Province.

Since the beginning of this year, the southern central coastal province of Phu Yen has welcomed more than 312,500 visitors, including 12,000 international tourists, an increase of 20% as compared to the same period last year.

According to the province’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, due to the increased number of tourists, the provincial tourism sector has earned 249.5 billion VND, an increase of 1.7 times compared to last year’s figure, and 50% of local hotel rooms were now occupied.

Thua Thien-Hue prepares to market community based and eco tourism

A seminar aiming to promote the concept of community based tourism was held in the central city of Hue. The idea was co-ordinated between farmers, travel companies and the tourism administration.

A proposal to create and market seven exclusive tours was put forward and discussed by those in the tourism trade. The plan included tour visits to the ancient village of Phuoc Tich; to Thanh Tien village which is known for its paper flower craft; to  Sinh village famous for folk painting; to the Tam Giang Lagoon; to the Thanh Toan tiled bridge and to the Nam Dong and A Luoi  areas for eco-tourism.

Several training workshops have now been organized to help residents to promote and market their local areas and tap all available resources to showcase their villages. 

The seminar also focused on developing community based tourism in Thua Thien-Hue Province.

Hanoi promotes tourism investment

On November 17th, at the Hanoi Museum, Hanoi’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold a conference to introduce the city’s tourism potentials and call for investment in tourism, with the participation of around 200 delegates from businesses, relevant agencies and Japanese investors.

This is the first time Hanoi announces a list of tourism projects, as approved by the city, to businesses in order to help them take decisions on their investments.

In addition, Hanoi will also recommend the best sites for developing tourism with many investment incentives.

Expanding tourism in the US market

The Ho Chi Minh City Culture, Sports and Tourism will organise and lead a group of Vietnamese travel agents to the US to survey its tourist market from November 28th to December 9th, the agency unveiled recently.

The Vietnamese tourism delegation comprises tourism officials and tourist companies and travel agents in Hanoi and HCM City.

Under the plan, the delegation, in collaboration with local partners, namely Viet Circle, American Tour International (ATI) and American Airlines will work and carry out market surveys and tourist promotion in large US cities such as Los Angles, San Diego, Las Vegas, Washington DC, New York and so on.

According to officials, the visit is aimed to attract more US tourists to Vietnam as well as organising tours in the US for potential Vietnamese visitors.
