Many travel agencies have introduced interesting domestic and foreign tours to meet higher demands of tourists during Christmas and the New Year holidays.


The Ben Thanh Tourist Company has launched special domestic tours, of two or three days each, costing from VND 2 to 3 million, excluding air tickets, from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Can Tho and Vinh Long. 


In addition, there are also several tours to Central provinces such as Danang, Hue and Quang Binh. In particular, the travel agency offers 5%-10% discount for customers buying tours this December.


On the occasion of the opening of a non-stop air route from Ho Chi Minh City to Beijing, TST TOURIST Company has also launched promotional tours to Beijing and Shanghai for customers to celebrate Christmas and the New Year holiday in China, along with other interesting tours to Thailand.

PANO – Marking the Day for Agent Orange Victims (August 10th), the Vietnam Association for the Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) on July 22nd held a press conference to review its operations and launch a month of action to support AO victims.


The event aims to provide information on AO’s harmful effects on humans and the environment and the long-term consequences on Vietnamese people.


The VAVA President, Nguyen Van Rinh, reported that its branches nationwide have raised a large amount of money for the victims and the Association will carry out other programs such as building houses, presenting scholarships and creating jobs for AO victims.


The VAVA also called on people and organisations worldwide to support Vietnamese AO victims in the struggle for justice and to secure their legitimate rights.


The Association is planning to introduce a new care-taking model to health centers for AO victims.

Provinces and cities nationwide have organized various events to mark the 120th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh on May 19.


** In Ho Chi Minh City, a grand meeting was held to celebrate Uncle Ho’s 120th birth anniversary in presence of Party and State leaders, as well as heroic Vietnamese mothers, heroes of armed forces and war veterans,


Speaking at the meeting, Le Thanh Hai, member of the Party’s Political Bureau and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, highlighted President Ho’s huge contributions to the nation’s revolutionary cause.


Ho Chi Minh City strived to successfully implement the current process of national industrialisation and modernisation and become the nation’s economic hub, he said.


Participants in the event also honoured 212 outstanding individuals and organisations in the movement for “Studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example”.


** Similar events also took place in Hanoi on May 19 to celebrate President Ho’s 120th birthday.


Present at the meeting were Public Security Minister General Le Hong Anh, deputy ministers, senior Party officials and a large number of soldiers and Youth Union members.


General Le Hong Anh recalled memories of Uncle Ho’s life and work. President Ho Chi Minh always paid special attention to police forces and pointed out good characteristics the police needed to have, he said.


** Addressing a meeting in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province on May 19 to mark Uncle Ho’s birthday, Chairman of the Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee, Huynh Duc Hoa, emphasised the morals and intelligence of the talented leader.


President Ho set a bright example for Vietnamese people and international friends, he said.


** Similar events were held on May 19 in other provinces, including Ha Tinh, Tay Ninh, Son La, Da Nang, Tien Giang, Soc Trang, Can Tho, Kien Giang and Ca Mau to celebrate President Ho’s birthday.


The same day, an incense-offering ceremony was held in Lai Chau province to mark President Ho’s birthday and launch a tree-planting movement in his memory.

Diverse activities have been launched in response to Youth Month in March, such as building charitable houses, providing free healthcare services and organising vocational training courses for young people.


Since the beginning of March 2010, about 77,000 young people in Phu Tho province have collected more than 15 tonnes of rubbish, repaired 18km of rural roads, dredged tens of km of canals and rivers, and planted over 55,000 trees. They have actively taken part in disseminating information on environmental protection, traffic safety and the fight against social evils.


In Hoa Binh province, young people planted 9ha of forest, built 1km of rural road and presented gifts to poor students and social policy beneficiaries. They also repaired charitable houses, provided free healthcare services and organised vocational training courses for poor people.


The Quang Binh provincial Youth Union has decided to grant preferential loans worth a total of VND55 billion in 2010 to help young people start business and production. The province’s vocational training and job generation centres organised courses for 70,000 Youth Union members and created jobs for 6,500 young workers, including those living in remote areas.


On the occasion, young people in Binh Thuan province organised a job bazaar, attracting more than 1,000 Youth Union members taking part. The event was a good opportunity for youths to meet and exchange information with businesspeople and seek jobs. More than 100 young people were recruited at the fair.
