Viettel wins investment license in Mozambique

PANO – Movitel, a joint venture between the Vietnamese Military Telecommunication Group (Viettel) and Mozambique’s SPI Invespar Company, has received an investment license in the African country, according to Viettel Group.

After receiving the license, Viettel sent a delegation to Mozambique to carry out large projects. Movitel plans to invest nearly 400 million USD to build its infrastructure with 4,500 2G base transceiver stations and 1,200 3G base transceiver stations to meet the demand for local people in all areas of the country.


Movitel plans will introduce many communication services with cheap prices in Mozambique. The company targets to be one of the largest telecom firms in the market after one year operation.


Mozambique is the fourth foreign country in which Viettel has invested, after Cambodia, Laos and Haiti.

Viettel implements full Internet access to Schools

The Military Telecom Group, Viettel announced on December 17 that it had now completed its target to fully provide free internet connections to schools and educational offices across the country at an estimated cost of  nearly VND500 billion (USD25 million).

The Ministry of Education and Training and Viettel, yesterday reviewed Internet provision programmes for schools and launched an awareness plan for schools in Hanoi. The ministry and Viettel also signed a cooperation agreement to maintain internet access to schools across the country.

The Internet at school program has been carried out by the Ministry of Education and Training and Viettel since September, 2008. The program provides more than 25 million teachers and students access to internet for teaching, study, and research work. Under the agreement, both sides will invest in the equipment, manuals and other related documents to help train teachers in the use of the internet.

Dr. Quach Tuan Ngoc, director of the Information Technology Department under the Ministry of Education and Training, claimed that Vietnam will now be one of the few countries in the world that provides free Internet access to schools.

According to the 2010 report of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), Vietnam was ranked with Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand in the use of information technology (IT) in education.

The program will also greatly promote information technology to local communities.

Viettel completes internet connections to all Vietnamese schools

PANO – Viettel, the Defence Telecommunications Group, announced the completion of the Programme “Connecting the internet to the whole Vietnamese education sector” on July 20th.


From now on, nearly 30 million school teachers and students throughout the country have access to the internet that helps them better fulfill their tasks of teaching and learning.


The Programme started in September 2008 after Viettel committed to providing free internet access for all schools nationwide.


According to Viettel officials, the group will continue to upgrade modems and internet infrastructure for education bases across the country in the future.

Viettel offers roaming to 118 countries, territories

Military-run telecom Viettel has offered international roaming to 118 countries and territories after signing a cooperation agreement with 250 international telecoms.


SMS will be free, and foreign subscribers roaming within Viettel’s network will be provided with such services as SMS, GPRS and 3G.


In addition, subscribers who use Unitel and Metfone within Cambodia will be offered a 70-80 percent discount.

Viettel continues its supports for Dakrong

Viettel, the Defence Telecommunications Group, will continue its supports of medical equipment for Dakrong District, Quang Tri in 2010 under the Government’s Resolution 3a.


Viettel officials said that, in addition, the group will provide expenses for training courses for local medics to improve their professional abilities and skills under the national standards. 


Alongside the support for the local medical sector, it will also build 2 boarding schools for local children, mostly ethnic minorities, as well as installing a LAN network in local administrative agencies and providing resources for IT and computer skills training for local officials.
