VND 2,600 billion to build Thanh Hoa Airport

The project to build Thanh Hoa Airport was officially announced on January 8th by the Thanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee and the Vietnam Aviation Department.


Under the plan, the project will be implemented in two phases with the first oneto be completed by 2020 and the second one to be completed by 2030 at a cost of 2,600 billion VND in aggregate.


The airport will be erected in Hai Ninh Commune, Tinh Gia District, 30 km south of Thanh Hoa City, and 1.3 km away from National Highway 1A.


The airport is designed to carry 250,000 passengers and 10,000 tons of cargo per year after the first phase is completed. The designed capacity for the second phase is 1 million passengers and 20,000 tons of cargo per year. The airport will then be able to serve both regular domestic and international flights.

Hanoi presents nearly 200 billion VND to social beneficiaries

PANO – The Hanoi People’s Committee has spent more than 195 billion VND on Tet presents for 733,133 wounded soldiers, martyrs’ families, veterans, elderly people, and other needy people in the city.


Meanwhile delegations from the city’s authorities will visit and present gifts to 97 social groups and 87 families of social beneficiaries on the Lunar New Year holidays.


On this occasion, various meaningful activities have been launched to support social beneficiaries in the city. Some art performances have been held to raised funds from individuals and businesses to sponsor for social programs.

5.7 billion VND for disadvantaged people and orphaned children

The Hanoi Fund for Disabled People and Orphaned children has reviewed its operations in 2010 and worked out tasks for this year.


Last year, the organisation were able to present 1,428 wheelchairs for disable people, 665 bicycles for orphaned children, 1,047 scholarships to needy pupils thanks to more than 5.7 billion VND raised from groups and individuals inside and outside the country.


This year, the Association plans to focus activities on providing vocational training for disadvantaged people to enable them integrate in the society, and offering more scholarships for orphaned children.

The Hanoi People’s Committee has finally passed the plans and conditions to mobilise capital for projects to collect and process waste water in Ha Dong and Son Tay.


The projects, costing some VND 1,296 billion from the French Government’s ODA and Vietnam’s corresponding capital will be managed by the City’s Construction Department.


Under the projects, an underground drainage system that will collect waste water from households of 116,000 people on an area of 1,545 ha and a liquid waste processing plant will be built in Ha Dong.


Similar subprojects will be implemented in Son Tay Town.


Officials said that the projects are aimed to improve living conditions for local dwellers in the response to the increasing urbanisation and the downgraded liquid waste processing facilities in the two localities.

VND 8 billion presented to Vietnam Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin

PANO – As much as VND 8 billion was donated for Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in the VTV1 live-broadcast programme, entitled “Justice and the Heart” held on August 8.


The programme, co-organised by the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA), Vietnam Television and the Thang Long Culture and Information Joint-stock Company, is to commemorate the annual “Day for Victims of Agent Orange in Vietnam” on August 10th and to honour and express deep gratitude to local individuals and organisations as well as international friends who have been greatly supporting victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin of Vietnam.


“The campaign for raising VND 64 billions designed for building 550 houses, 55 daily care centers, creating 1,100 jobs and providing 1,100 scholarships granted to the victims of Agent Orange launched by the Central Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Vietnam from August 2009, has achieved more results than expected”, said the VAVA President, Senior-Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh.


He added that “As of June 2010, the fund already reached VND 50 billions, corresponding to 78% of the plan”.


Addressing the programme, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan wholeheartedly expressed gratitude for all the gestures of golden hearts expressed by comrades, fellow countrymen in the country and abroad and international friends towards the victims of Agent Orange in Vietnam.


He proudly spoke of the efforts and the extraordinary will of victims of Agent Orange in overcoming all adverse conditions and diseases so that they may integrate themselves into surrounding communities.


The Deputy Prime Minister expected more and more organisations and individuals to be involved in the support to the Agent Orange victims, so that the pain of the victims may be alleviated.


Along with positive signals shared by four Vietnamese participants of the third hearing on the Agent Orange in Vietnam opened by the US Congress July of this year, audiences of the “Justice and the Heart” programme were also entertained with several interesting songs.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed that the Government would invest VND 1,300 billion in the sea bank system from Quang Ninh to Quang Nam.


During the five-year sea dyke upgrading programme reviewing conference, the Ministry’s officials claimed that the sea bank system from Quang Ninh to Quang Nam needed upgrading and fortifying, and coastal forests in the area should be protected and replanted.


At the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung agreed to the proposal and asked involved local authorities to immediately draw up plans to recover and replant coastal forests in their localities.


He ordered local authorities to finish all coastal forest planting projects in 3 years.

VND 3 billion presented to build school in Cuba

The Ben Tre Provincial Youth Union presented VND 3 billion to the Cuban Consulate in Vietnam under a programme titled “One million bricks for Cuban children” on June 26th.


The money will be used to build a school, named “Small-age Vietnamese friends” in the village of Ben Tre in the Batou district of the Cuban capital of La Havana.


The “One million bricks for Cuban children” program was jointly-organized by the Ben Tre Provincial Committee and Youth Union, the San Ho Island Creative Culture Company and the Youth Newspaper on March 29th to April 19th in various schools with diversity of forms and contents.


The program, a response to a campaign to build a school in Ben Tre village in Cuba, which was lauched 6 months ago, will partly promote the long-lasting friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.
